A tornado struck UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown in Iowa yesterday, forcing the hospital to evacuate 43 patients to other facilities and close all services and departments on its main campus. No patients or staff were injured. The emergency department has relocated to the health system’s medical park in Marshalltown. The tornado was one of several that swept through Central Iowa unexpectedly yesterday, knocking out power and damaging homes and businesses in three communities.
