The Medicare Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies Competitive Bidding Program will consolidate all bidding for 2019 contracts into a single round of competition, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced yesterday. CMS by law must recompete the program’s contracts at least once every three years. Round 2019 will take place in 141 competitive bidding areas. Rather than submitting individual bids for each item in a DME grouping, suppliers will submit one bid for the lead item that takes into account the cost of furnishing all the equipment in the grouping. CMS plans to announce the round’s bidding timeline and begin bidder registration this spring.
