Hospital emergency department visits and inpatient stays related to opioids increased 99% and 64%, respectively, between 2005 and 2014, according to a new report from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Across states, hospitalization rates varied by up to eight fold while ED visit rates varied by up to 14 fold.
