The Measure Applications Partnership today published a list of 97 measures under consideration for use in hospital and other Medicare public reporting and payment programs, including about 20 measures for potential use in the hospital inpatient and outpatient quality reporting programs. The multi-stakeholder MAP is required to review most Medicare quality and performance measures before they are proposed in formal rulemaking. The MAP will accept preliminary comments through Dec. 2 on provider experiences with the list of measures and whether they would add value, improve patient outcomes or create undue data collection and reporting burdens. MAP workgroups will then issue draft recommendations for public comment by late December and make final recommendations to the Department of Health and Human Services by Feb. 1. Additional details on the MAP process, including upcoming workgroup meeting dates, are available at www.qualityforum.org/map.
