The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services today awarded $25.5 million in grants to 22 states and the District of Columbia to enforce and oversee compliance with Affordable Care Act requirements for essential health benefits, preventive services, parity in mental health and substance use disorder benefits, appeals processes, and medical loss ratios. The ACA provided $250 million in grants to improve how states review proposed health insurance rate increases and hold insurers accountable for unjustified hikes. Today’s awards came from unobligated rate review funds from prior years.
