The Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response today announced funding to further develop, and potentially purchase for the Strategic National Stockpile, two tests for use in a large-scale nuclear or radiological emergency. The biodosimetry tests would help clinical health care labs determine in about eight hours how much radiation a survivor has absorbed, information doctors need to identify the best treatment. No such tests are currently approved.
