The House of Representatives today voted 407-5 to approve the conference report for the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (S. 524), legislation to address the nation’s opioid abuse epidemic. Among other AHA-supported provisions, the conference report would establish an interagency task force to develop best practices for pain management and medication prescribing, which would include a hospital representative, and authorize the Attorney General and Secretary of Health and Human Services to make grants to prevent and treat opioid abuse and overdoses. The conference committee approved the agreement earlier this week. For more on the conference report, see the Energy and Commerce Committee summary.
