Hospital and health system trustees are at the forefront of shaping health care in our communities. And the AHA is committed to sharing resources and expanding programming for this important work. That’s why last year, we reorganized our trustee offerings to give them a new single home within the association.

AHA Trustee Services – accessible on the AHA’s website at trustees.aha.org – now is the hub for AHA’s trustee education efforts. The available resources focus on good governance practices and thought leadership related to what it means to be a high-performing board, as well as the trends and forces transforming the health care field and the impact they could have on your organizations and communities. The multimedia offerings include not only written briefs, organized for easy download and dissemination, but also video content and on-demand webinars that can be used for boardroom education and discussion.

These resources are shared via a free e-newsletter called Trustee Insights. The spring issue features articles on the increasing role of employers in driving health care value, new governance approaches to strategic planning, board orientation practices and how to maximize board chair effectiveness. In July, Insights will begin bimonthly distribution, bringing trustees even more resources.

We’ve also enhanced trustee education offerings at all of our major membership meetings. The AHA Annual Membership Meeting, AHA Leadership Summit and Rural Health Care Leadership Conference all feature robust trustee tracks. With this enhanced programming, trustees can participate in sessions tailored for them and also attend the larger meeting events and activities.

The AHA will continue to enhance and expand all of these resources for trustees. Please share them with your hospital or health system board by visiting trustees.aha.org and learning more.
