Depression among hospitalized patients is often unrecognized, undiagnosed, and therefore untreated.  Hospitalization represents an unrecognized opportunity to optimize both mental and physical health outcomes. At Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA 95% of patients admitted to the hospital receives screening and evaluation for depression. Patients can choose to opt out of screening, and some can't be screened because of their health condition at admission. 

Speaker, Itai Danovitch, MD, MBA, Chairman, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences, and Rosanne Arnold, Associate Director, Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Neurosciences at Cedars-Sinai, described the impact of the seamless screening administered by the same nurses seeing to patients' other medical needs.
