Description

Held April 16, 2019

The AHA’s Value Initiative and AHA’s Section for Psychiatric and Substance Abuse Services held a joint Virtual Workshop webinar:  Community Collaborations and Medical Integration:  Effectively Addressing Substance Use Disorders that featured Dr. Daniel Duhigg, D.O., Behavioral Health Medical Director for Presbyterian Healthcare Services Albuquerque, and Brenda Romero, Administrator at Presbyterian Española, Hospital, Española, New Mexico.

Presbyterian Healthcare Services is taking a new approach to working with patients whose health is affected by substance use disorders (SUDs). Launched in May 2017, the Substance Use Disorder and Community Collaborative initiative approaches addiction the same way as other diseases, such as diabetes or heart problems, with scientifically evaluated treatment. In this webinar, Presbyterian Healthcare Services presenters share how intervention teams identify patients with potential SUDs, evaluate the range of services the patient may need, including psychiatric and other medical treatment, and provide follow-up support post discharge. In addition, you’ll learn how Presbyterian’s teams work with community groups such as churches and faith-based organizations to train individuals to recognize signs that someone is struggling with SUDs and let them know where they can seek supportive help.
