St. Vincent's Health System - St. Vincent's Hispanic Outreach

Since 2002, St. Vincent’s Hispanic Outreach (HO) has helped Latino communities take charge of and prevent illness. The program promotes wellness through health screenings and health education and works with partners to provide low-cost primary care to more than 140 Latinos annually. The new Parish Health Initiative (PHI) trains health ambassadors to serve as community health workers within their own community while implementing health programming tailored to their community’s needs and interests.

Why do they do it?

The goal is to address the unique needs of Alabama’s Latino population by using a holistic approach to health and wellness.

Impact

In the past two years, 24 health ambassadors have been trained, serving a combined population of more than 900 Latino parishioners.
