St. Vincent’s SWIM Across the Sound, now in its 26th year, provides cancer education, screening and support services ranging from prevention to survivorship programs. The SWIM also offers a significant safety net by providing financial assistance to cancer patients and their families. It is often a last resort for people who otherwise would have nowhere to turn for help with necessary life expenses not covered by insurance. With a $2,500 cap per patient, the SWIM provides one of the largest financial assistance programs for cancer patients in the country.

A diagnosis of cancer can be financially devastating. The SWIM offers the financial and emotional help patients need as they are treated for cancer so they can focus on getting well.

Impact

St. Vincent’s provides financial assistance to more than 300 people annually, distributing more than $600,000 in financial assistance.
