Henry County Medical Center - Industrial Wellness Program

Five industries in the county that employ large segments of the population partner in this program, through which comprehensive health screenings and information come to employees at their work sites. Each company pays less than $100 per person for more than $800 worth of tests and counseling. Labs include complete blood count, basic metabolic panel, liver panel, lipid profile, total iron, PSA, and thyroid profile, among others. Participants receive their health profile and recommendations for improving their health. All profiles are confidential, but the company receives an overall summary.

Who is it for?

Employees of these four industries; some of the industries also allow employee spouses to participate.

Why do they do it?

These employees may not have the time or the finances for a check-up. This program offers employees a health screening without having to lose time and wages, and ultimately benefits employers by reducing health-related costs and employee absences.

Impact

This program has discovered approximately 750 previously unknown disease processes and saved approximately 125 lives since it began nine years ago. This year’s 320 participants included 175 females and 145 males with an average age of 45. Of those, 19 had an abnormal thyroid panel, 104 had high blood pressure, 18 had an abnormal glucose level, 114 had cholesterol greater than 200, and one participant was discovered to have prostate cancer.
