Saint Francis Hospital - Preventing Alcohol and Drug Abuse through Primary Education (PADAPE)

The Preventing Alcohol and Drug Abuse through Primary Education (PADAPE) program provides multimedia, age-appropriate prevention lessons to school-age children in their classrooms and adheres to the Principles of Prevention recognized by the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Making use of grant funding, PADAPE is conducted in collaboration with four local school districts at no cost to the students or their families. The program uses the “Get Real about Tobacco” and “Here’s Looking at You” curricula to instruct students on the biological, psychological, social and personal consequences of using nicotine, alcohol and other drugs.

Who is it for?

Students in kindergarten through sixth grade in four local school districts.

Why do they do it?

The factual information presented to students over a number of years is intended to strengthen anti-drug behavior and attitudes, and to reinforce age-appropriate reasoning and social skills in situations where there is a risk that they might begin to smoke or use other drugs or alcohol.
