Stormont-Vail HealthCare - Neonatal Follow-Up Clinics

What is it?

These free clinics help families with children from newborn to age two. Through a Developmental Follow-Up Clinic for low- to moderate-risk infants and an Intensive Care Follow-Up Clinic for high-risk infants, newborns are seen to the age of two and screened on each visit for developmental, medical and or/social needs. Children and families are then referred to appropriate medical, developmental or social services based on individual needs. Follow-up reports are provided to the primary care physician and other referral sources as indicated from the evaluation.

A neonatal nurse practitioner oversees low- and moderate-risk infants while a multi-disciplinary team consisting of a neonatologist, registered nurse, occupational therapist and social worker assist families with infants discharged from the NICU and often experiencing different needs and issues.

Who is it for?

Free for babies who are hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Stormont-Vail. This service is also available for infants from the community who have used intensive care services at other hospitals.

Why do they do it?

Patients come from a wide variety of socioeconomic and ethnic/cultural backgrounds. Providing support and education fosters early childhood development and builds strong families, which makes for a healthier community.
