Grandview Medical Center - DO-WOP (Diabetes and Obesity, Wellness Opportunities Program)

This free program is dedicated to improving the health, self-image, and well-being of children who are overweight. The DO-WOP approach to care is holistic, combining medical expertise and diagnostic tools with nutrition and behavior education and dance exercise.

What is it?

This free program is dedicated to improving the health, self-image, and well-being of children who are overweight. The DO-WOP approach to care is holistic, combining medical expertise and diagnostic tools with nutrition and behavior education and dance exercise.

Who is it for?

Area families, defined as a child age 9 to 14, with guardian or other adult member of family. Both child and adult must participate in the program.

Why do they do it?

Many Dayton-area children are from neighborhoods where it is not safe to exercise outside, and there are no community fitness facilities available.

Impact

Each 12-week session accommodates up to 25 families; almost 150 families have participated to date. An increasing percentage of participants are consistently lowering their body mass indexes.
