Standards and Certification of EHRs

The movement toward standards adoption will facilitate the ease of sharing health information so that clinicians and patients have the information they need to provide treatment and promote health, in the form and at the time they need it. The primary purpose of certification is to give health care providers assurance that health IT products purchased, and in particular EHR technology products, will perform in a manner consistent with the standards incorporated in their development.
