How Artificial Intelligence Can Support Precision Heart Care

NEW AHA Leadership Scan

How Artificial Intelligence Can Support Precision Heart Care. A digital image of a human heart.

Upcoming Leadership Scan Webinar:

Artificial intelligence (AI)-based applications have found new use in cardiovascular imaging and cardiovascular risk prediction. These applications have contributed to more precise treatment strategies for different types of cardiovascular disease, offering the potential for earlier, less invasive intervention and potentially significant savings.

A new AHA Leadership Scan episode will examine how one AI-powered system was developed from 10 million images of patients’ hearts gathered over a 15-year period from more than 40,000 patients in landmark, multicenter clinical trials. Panelists will explore applications and benefits of machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing and coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) analysis in aiding personalized coronary artery disease care.

Because more than half of heart attack patients do not show any symptoms or surrogate markers before the event, the panel will examine and evaluate this approach to patient assessment.

The program will address:

  • How AI is being used today to more accurately diagnose cardiovascular disease.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of machine learning, deep learning and natural language processing and how research supports its use in medicine.
  • Examine why AI applied to CCTA is promising for comprehensive coronary artery disease assessment.
  • Explore how AI can improve hospital workflows and reduce inefficiencies within cardiac care.
